One of the main challenges facing safe use of wastewater in agricultural irrigation in the MENA region is the lack of existing capacities at all levels and the resulting social rejection to the concept of reuse. However, and since treated wastewater is mostly considered in silos approaches, social acceptance is still very limited. Particularly when thinking about capacity building in water reuse, there is still a high demand to consider a more holistic approach in which this non-conventional water resource is in a wider context based on risk assessment and risk management of all agricultural inputs. This was the core of initiating ReWater MENA Project in which ACWUA is part of.
ACWUA works in Stakeholders’ capacity for safe water reuse in which Reuse stakeholders was sensitized, trained, and linked with a network in MENA to speed up the adoption and replication of reuse solutions.
