Overview of the Action

Within the framework of the Joint Technical Secretariat supporting for the Joint Water-Agriculture Ministerial Meeting in implementing the recommendation of the High-Level Joint Water- Agriculture Technical Committee that is related to supporting the interested Arab countries in preparing and implementing Sanitation Safety Plan (SSP) at pilot level, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Regional office for Near East and North Africa supported four countries, namely Jordan, Libya, Palestine, and Tunisia as part of their efforts to promote the safe use of wastewater as a sustainable and reliable irrigation water source for agricultural production. In this context, FAO developed a framework for preparing and implementing SSP, formed a national team from the concerned ministries, and conducted series of virtual workshops that aims to:
• Clarifying the concept of SSP in agriculture and the philosophy of preparing SSP and its general objectives.
• Identifying appropriate pilot areas in each of the participating countries.

Objectives of the action

• Providing the national teams with the needed knowledge, skills, and motivation to implement the SSP organized a technical workshop that aims to raise the capabilities of national teams in preparing and implementing SSP on pilot level for each country.

- 1-day workshop on the SSP Principles.
- 1 Study Tour on the SSP Application
