Overview of the Action

The Kingdom of Bahrain is currently considered among the world's lowest ranked countries in terms of conventional freshwater availability per capita. Climate change is predicted to influence the Kingdom of Bahrain's freshwater reserves, lowering them from 20 to 100 million m3 per year. As a result, with the support of the Green Climate Fund, “Enhancing Climate Resilience of the Water Sector in Bahrain” project aimed at improving the climate resilience of Bahrain's water sector has been launched. The Arab Countries Water Utilities Association (ACWUA) is offering its consulting services to response to RFP of MOO/Kingdom of Bahrain for “Designs and Guidelines for Rainwater Harvesting and Grey Water Reuse and Guidelines for Water Saving Technologies and Practices”.

Objectives of the action

Guidelines for rainwater harvesting and grey water recycling are produced. These will focus on household systems, large public buildings, and mosques, and present appropriate systems for each building category. Details on the specific design and cost-effectiveness of grey water systems are also presented. Guidelines on water saving techniques will be produced to provide guidance to the public on how to save water in their households, as well as in small-scale farming.

Results of the action (Outcomes & outputs)

• Developing design and guidelines for grey water reuse for households and mosques.
• Developing guidelines on water-saving for households and small-scale farms.
• Developing design and guidelines for rainwater harvesting at identified locations and for households.
