Arab Water Week 2017 - Call for Papers

Conference Topics
Under the title “Managing Water Systems within Fragile Environments in the Arab Region”, the Scientific Committee is seeking contributions from the Arab Region and international water community addressing the following conference topics:
1- Water Resources Management Policy and Governance:
1.1 Climate Change impacts on water resources and utilities
1.2 Innovations in unconventional water resources management (water reuse, desalination and wastewater safety plan)
1.3 Integrated Sludge Management
1.4 Transboundary water resources management and shared water aquifers (experiences and cooperation)
1.5 Managing groundwater aquifers toward sustainability (institutional and technical aspects)
1.6 General Water Resources Management (Master planning, water budget and reallocation of resources)
2- Utilities leadership empowerment:
2.1 Utilities towards financial sustainability
2.2 Strategic business planning for managing of utilities
2.3 Private sector involvement managing utilities (preparation, tendering, awarding and monitoring)
2.4 Mitigating Energy Costs and strategies to achieve cost recovery and sustainable financial plans
2.5 Sustainable Human Resources Management (capacity building and certification)
2.6 Research and Development Needs and prospects for water and wastewater utilities in MENA region
3- Political unrest in region:
3.1 Political unrest and impact on water utilities performance
3.2 Impacts of hosting refugees on utilities and service provision
3.3 Impact on human resources (Brain Drain)
4- Effective Utility Management Tools:
4.1 Non-Revenue Water reduction as new water resources
4.2 NRW diagnosis and reduction strategies
4.3 Smart grid solution for water and wastewater networks
4.4 Life-cycle principles and strategic Asset Management
4.5 Application of TSM concept as a tool for human capacity development and quality management
4.6 Energy Efficiency tools for water utilities

6- Advancing SDGs in the Arab region


Conference Venue
The 4th Arab Water Week will take place in the Kempinski Hotel Ishtar, Dead Sea, Jordan.

Invitation to submit a paper
Papers are expected to make an original and substantial contribution to the conference themes and topics. Speakers who are interested in presenting a paper should submit an abstract for review. Abstracts will be selected by the Arab Water Week Scientific Committee to cover different areas, methods, approaches and positions.
Abstracts should be maximum 300 words length. Each entry should incorporate the following information:
Author’s(s’) full name(s), Title – Position – Institution – Address for correspondence– Theme of the paper (see conference themes), indicating a first and second choice – Title of the paper – Abstract of the paper.

Deadlines

  • Deadline for submitting online abstracts:31st December, 2016
  • Announcement of results and selection process will start on: 30th January, 2017
  • Deadline for submitting the presentations and papers: 15th February, 2017
