Overview of the Action
The Improving the Regulatory Framework and Strengthening National Standards for Wastewater Discharge project is funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) under a grant agreement with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ). The benchmarking project has been undertaken as a part of consultancy contract between WAJ and ACWUA. The project is aiming to update the inventory for sources of trade effluents in Jordan and facilitate dialogue workshop between the Dialogue Partners with the overall objective at establishing a clear and predictable regulatory framework to foster efficiency and professionalism for discharge standards in the wastewater sector.
Objectives of the action
Strengthen Jordanian standards for wastewater discharged from industries (JS 202/2007), with respect to Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), heavy metals, and other toxic organic materials; and to improve the regulation related to discharging industrial effluents in the domestic sewer network (trade effluent) to protect workers, the public and the sewer systems and treatment plants.

- Updating GIS based inventory for trade effluent entities in Jordan.
- Facilitating and contributing to the ongoing policy dialogue among relevant stakeholders.
- Developing an Inventory for Trade Effluents in Jordan.
