Partnership Project between GWP and ACWUA

On behalf of sequa gGmbH and financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), German Water Partnership (GWP) has been cooperating with the Arab Countries Water Utilities Association (ACWUA) since 2016. Founded in 2009, ACWUA is an association of actors in the Arab water sector, uniting 117 members from 18 Arab countries, including water utility companies, ministries and authorities, non-governmental organizations, individuals and private companies.

Main Objectives

  • Support ACWUA in its association work
  • Promote the exchange of know-how on water-related topics
  • Strengthen regional networks

Specific Goals

  • Enlarged service portfolio to meet the needs of ACWUA members
  • Sustainable and efficient regional structures for ACWUA
  • Expanded international cooperation

Partnership Project Activities and Measures

  • Capacity-building
    • Training on energy efficiency for technicians of Jordanian water utilities
    • Promotion of safety standards through training on Technical Safety Management and certification
    • Development of annual activity plans and sustainable financing concepts
  • Improving Networks
    • Set-up of a regional expert pool
    • Platform for experts from Germany and the MENA region for sustainable international cooperation
    • Appointment of ACWUA focal points and contact persons in Tunisia, Lebanon and Egypt
    • Workshops and bilateral meetings in target countries to promote ACWUA membership
