Overview of the Action
UN-Habitat is the coordinating agency within the United Nations System for human settlement activities and in collaboration with governments is responsible for promoting and consolidating collaboration with all partners, including local authorities, private and non-governmental organizations in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular, Goal 11 of “Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”.
The project supports countries in monitoring water- and sanitation-related issues within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and in compiling country data to report on global progress towards SDG 6.

Objectives of the action
Implementing the Arab Countries Region collaborative framework to operationalize utility-based wastewater monitoring and management in support of increased investment o attain the SDG’s.

Results of the action (Outcomes & outputs)

  • Conducting series of three technical regional webinars:
    Wastewater Monitoring and Data Management tin the Arab Region.
    Financing wastewater and investment options.
    Governance and policies for wastewater management.
  • Conducting a high-level webinar on the topic of wastewater management and monitoring.
  • Supporting the utilities wastewater data collection process through coaching on data collection by the country experts in the Arab Region.
  • Assessing water and wastewater utilities needs and gaps in capacity for wastewater management and monitoring.
  • Dissemination of results using UN-Habitat/GWOPA Workplace.
